Movie Review -
Allah Ke Banday
With the Hindi movie industry churning out entertainers one after another; how many of us would really care to watch a serious action-packed drama?
Allah Ke Banday is not your average action-packed drama.
It’s a sincere movie that showcases juvenile delinquency in India’s infamous Mumbai slums.
We come across two twelve year old boys who apart from going to school are also into petty crimes and even seconding as delivery boys for the underworld.
Shot on location at slums, the realism is spot on!
Caught up in a mess, the boys are soon wrongly convicted of murder and end up in a juvenile reformatory.
You will be surprised to find out that life at the reformatory for the two boys ends up being even more complex than their lives at the slums.
Even their mere survival at the reformatory amongst other juveniles is not painless.
Are the boys subjected to torture?
And if any, will the boys take it lying down?
Will they develop into hardened criminals?
Don’t miss the character of the warden at the reformatory played by none other Nasseruddin Shah.
Nasseruddin Shah is brilliant as he characterises the cold, limp warden where everything contrary to reformation is the norm.
Unbelievable!
The drama and the action is only set to begin when the boys are men and released from the reformatory...
Sharman Joshi and Faruk Kabir characterize superbly the two, now men, who are back in the slums where they once lived....
What will their course of action be? What drives these former juvenile delinquents?
The movie is extra-ordinary, directed by first time director Faruk Kabir, giving you a shocking depiction of the slums and what ordinary children from the slums can succumb to.
There is loads of violence, gun-fights and even bloody brawls but the direction ensures that at no point is the violence and crimes glorified.
Allah Ke Banday is definitely watchable if you are ready for a serious, bold, ruthless, gripping, dark thriller!
