Famous the world over for its picturesque sandy beaches, lush greens, its cuisine, its guitar strumming musicians and much more - yes it is Goa (in India) that we are talking about...
There is possibly a little more to this place than meets the eye ... Dum Maaro Dum, the movie gets you into the by lanes, the beach shacks and the rave parties in Goa...
Lorry (played by Prateik Babbar) takes up an offer to have his expenses paid in a shady deal, after his scholarship to study in the US gets rejected.
Police officer Kamath (played by Abhishek Bachchan) takes up the thorny challenge of cleaning up the mafia in the state....
Kamath may have a different side to his story, but is teething with explosive anger on the inside as he forms a team to engage the nefarious mafia.
The chase begins for Kamath and his team for they do get a few of the small time baddies and with that they have their share of bruises, gun shots and fight sequences...
Set mainly in the streets of Goa, the lighting and the photography is natural as it captures action in real locations.
Here’s someone who makes his presence felt as quietly as possible -meet Rana Daggubati who characterizes his role to perfection - a freelance guitar strumming musician and singer, Joki.
Joki’s character is exceptionally simple, except that he takes a stance. He does his best to convince Kamath that things aren’t the way they seem to be...
Then there is Zoey (played by Bipasha Basu) who does very well as she characterizes a young woman whose enthusiasm is all but gone...
Aditya Pancholi plays a tycoon in a ‘straight off the cuff’ performance - standard.
There are fights and chases that spill over into Goa’s very own night market; bullet wounds and clashes that have everything - except that, they do not reveal the kingpin...
Interesting yet grim!
Deepika Padukone in the much hyped item-song is appealing, nothing spectacular though about the dance sequence.
A song called ‘Te Amo’ by Ash King and Sunidhi Chauhan featuring Bipasha and Rana Daggubati is indeed special.
Abhishek once again gets away with style and a couple of crisp dialogues.
Prakeik is very good as he plays a seventeen year old, with a squeaky voice and emotions that are spot on!
The story-telling and direction in several flashbacks is good, however the movie is very obviously serious, sticking to its tone and keeping up with the momentum, I suppose.
The climax however is striking and has a truly dark dimension to it!
Watch this movie, if you care to watch a serious, complex trail of ‘plain-clothes officers’ and the mafia.
